Orthotics
Foot orthoses are specially designed insoles to support, align and improve the function of the foot and lower limb, reducing tissue and joint stress. They can be customised for different activities and different footwear. There are many different types, some for cushioning and pressure relief, and others for motion control and foot posture. Some are customised from casts of the feet and others are standard devices modified to accommodate the foot or activity. They can be worn in a variety of shoes, as they are slim line, light and durable.
People of all ages with a range of foot and leg problems wear orthotics. People from various occupations or who participate in sporting activities can gain enormous benefits and maximise their performance from wearing orthotics. Anyone suffering from chronic foot or lower limb problems, which limit their mobility or independence can benefit from wearing orthoses.
Orthotics can be used in the treatment of:
- Heel and arch pain (Plantar fasciitis)
- Achilles tendon pain
- Shin Splints
- Knee pain
- Forefoot pain, (Neuromas)
- Persistent corn and callus
- Arthritis
- Lower back, hip and knee alignment issues
To ensure you need orthotics a thorough biomechanical foot and leg assessment must be performed. At Feet 4 Life this includes specific podiatry tests on: range of movement, muscle strength, foot posture with weight bearing and during gait. Video gait assessment is performed using specialised SILICON COACH analysis software to help identify not only what structures are taking too much load but why. This allows a tailored treatment plan for every person to give maximal benefit and long term pain relief.
